Mirek Salmon - Bandoneon
Mirek Salmon is an experienced accordionist, pianist and bandoneonist. His busy freelance career has seen him perform with BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Welsh National Opera and the Royal Shakespeare Company amongst others. He came to the world of tango fairly recently but in that time he has performed at milongas and tango festivals up and down the country as well as in France and Italy. He has studied bandoneon and tango music with some of the finest players such as Rodolfo Mederos, Pablo Jaurena and Julian Hasse. He has also attended the prestigious Tango for Musicians in Europe run by the organisation Tango Sin Fin. Mirek is a keen educator and ensemble leader and can’t wait to bring Bristol’s arm of the Creative Caminito project to life.
Carola Hengstenberg - Violin
Carola Hengstenberg is a Bristol-based violinist who has played both violin and piano from a very early age. Being classically trained in Germany, she has travelled to far away countries like China, Japan and Costa Rica, with touring amateur orchestras from the age of 16. Carola has a particular interest in playing in small ensembles and spent several years studying string quartet music under Vladimir Kovalev, former solo violist of the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble. When Carola moved to the UK 10 years ago, she discovered her passion for tango, music and dance. Over the years, she has enjoyed exploring different styles, traditional, incl. a la parilla, as well as alternative tango music, and has performed regularly at established UK tango events and festivals with various groups, among others Cabaret Tango, Tango Calor and her recently founded ensemble Duo de Cuerdas. Together with Tango Calor's bandoneonist Mirek Salmon, Carola is really looking forward to getting the first Bristol Community Tango Orchestra, part of the Creative Caminito project, off the ground.
