London Caminito Tango Orchestra
This amateur tango orchestra has been running since 2017 and follows a similar model to tango orchestra escuelas (schools) in Buenos Aires. The orchestra learns famous pieces from celebrated tango orchestras and composers from the 1920s up to today. The project began after Caroline won a Winston Churchill Fellowship and went to Argentina for 2.5 months to do research on tango violin, take classes and perform with the Emilio Balcarce Orquesta Escuela. She came back and decided to start a project based on the same idea as a way of bringing hands-on experience of playing tango to people in the UK. There are numerous dance schools in the UK but no tango music schools - so this is the first one of its kind. It remains a genre that is ignored by music education schools and most festivals, but has so much to give and Caroline works tirelessly to increase access and awareness of this incredible music in the UK.
